Miami Beach bids out Lincoln Road contract

Getting towed on Miami Beach could cost more, a developer could come closer to taking over maintenance of Lincoln Road, and Florida Power & Light could get a 30-year franchise agreement when Miami Beach commissioners meet Wednesday. Commissioners voted to bid out a contract to privatize the maintenance of Lincoln Road, despite general acceptance that the city has done a poor job of cleaning, painting and landscaping the historic promenade.

Four commissioners voted that administrators should negotiate a no-bid contract with developer Robert Wennett to take over daily operations at the outdoor mall, but Wennett needed five votes to waive a bid requirement.
